Nurturing Talent in Sheffield's Workforce, 15 October 2008
8am - 10am at the Holiday Inn, Royal Victoria Hotel, Sheffield
A private sector business breakfast targeted at middle and senior managers
Some of the biggest and best employers in the city discussed how to improve the skills of workers in Sheffield, nurture and attract talent to the city for the long-term.
Sheffield has a lower skills profile than the future economy will demand. Innovation and growth, both for the city and individual companies, rely upon the talent and ideas coming through our workforce. Sheffield must raise the skills of its workforce, grow its own and capture that innovation.
Employers have a significant role to play in addressing this issue – this event:
- Heard from local businesses who are leading the way.
- Provided an opportunity for businesses to learn from each other.
- Identified areas where the city could do more to help businesses.
The focus was on ‘growing your own’ talented workforce: how businesses attract and retain and nurture their employees to meet the changing needs of their business; and how we then work together to provide opportunities that will keep these people in Sheffield for all our benefit.
Speakers and panel included:
