Successful Neighbourhoods Partnership

Successful Neighbourhoods is one of the top priorities for Sheffield, and we wish to make Sheffield distinctive for its neighbourhoods as well as its city centre. We are committed to building on our strong community ethos and sense of “a city of villages.”

Ambitious plans are in place to achieve this, and we are working on regeneration programmes that will provide sustainable neighbourhoods through a mixture of major physical projects and renewing effectiveness of public services. We aim to reduce the gap in the prosperity and well-being between our most deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of the city, and we want to enable local people to take a strong role in shaping the future of their areas. This will ensure sustainability is based on active communities that enjoy access to high quality public services.

The Successful Neighbourhoods Partnership is responsible for driving forward the ‘Closing the Gap’ strategy and many of the commitments made in the local area agreement concerning stronger, safer communities. To support us in this task we have developed a nationally recognised  Neighbourhood Information System that will enable us to measure year-on-year progress against a range of indicators.

A co-ordinated approach to neighbourhood renewal underpins our approach and many organisations within the Sheffield First Family of partnerships are playing a positive role in developing successful neighbourhoods. We work with others to ensure that related activities such as the Employment and Skills and Crime and Disorder Strategies, the new service districts for children and young people and enhanced public health plans, all support the successful neighbourhoods agenda.
