Sheffield First Environment Partnership
The Sheffield First Environment Partnership is the high level city-wide partnership for the environment in Sheffield. It brings together key organisations and individuals from the voluntary, community and faith sectors, the public sector and the private sector to work together to achieve environmental excellence in Sheffield and address action for climate change.
In particular, this partnership is responsible for co-ordinating action to address one of the five ambitions for Sheffield, as set out in the City Strategy – these are areas where gradual improvement is not an option and a step change is required. The ambition for the Environment Partnership is for “Sheffield to be an attractive and sustainable, low carbon city”.
Our vision is to establish Sheffield as a city whose built and natural environments are distinctive and of high quality, where our environmental assets are recognised for their direct contribution to the city’s economic success and the well-being of its citizens. A city in which citizens enjoy and respect those environments and where, given its size, the city contributes positively to the regional, national and global environment. This vision is set out in the Environment Strategy.
The Environment Partnership is a thematic partnership within the Sheffield First Partnership and delivers the above through:
- Informing Strategy – contributing to the development of strategy, namely the Environmental Excellence Strategy 2007-2010 and the Sheffield Carbon Reduction Strategy 2009 (to be released soon).
- Commissioning – commissioning actions from partners to achieve the defined vision, strategy and city outcomes for climate change and environment excellence.
- Ensuring delivery for the above and ensuring that agreed actions are delivered successfully with the engagement of key stakeholders.
- Performance management – proactively managing performance to ensure the achievement of the agreed outcomes, defining corrective action as necessary, monitoring external influences and risks to performance.
