Voluntary, Community and Faith Sectors
Sheffield has one of the most vibrant Voluntary, Community and Faith sectors in the country. There are thousands of groups that come under this heading ranging from small self-help groups with under 20 members to large service providers and development agencies employing up to 100 paid staff.
Groups are involved with all issues that affect the lives of the citizens of Sheffield including housing, education, environment, regeneration and the arts. There are organisations working with the population groups such as women, children, disabled, ethnic communities and older adults as well as those working with particular geographical communities.
OFFER is the citywide network for all of the voluntary, community and faith organisations in Sheffield (the VCF sector). It enables the great diversity of voluntary and community/faith groups to link through to such organisations as the Sheffield First Partnership.
The Voluntary, Community and Faith sectors have an important role to play in Sheffield First Partnership, and organisations are actively involved across the whole of the Sheffield First Partnership. The OFFER / Sheffield First Partnership Protocol, which can be downloaded below, governs the relationship between the two and explains how representatives are supported.
At Sheffield First Partnership board level, six places are available for open recruitment from the Voluntary, Community and Faith sectors, and a permanent place held by the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Sheffield the board. Places on the board are advertised early in each calendar year on a rolling basis and each successful applicant serves for a three-year term.
